The travisher (bottom of picture) and rounding plane are
hand tools used in the making of all Windsor chairs. Both these tools
are hand made by Tom Thackray to original designs and are available for
other chair makers to buy. The Travisher in the picture is a special tool
produced by Tom for personal use on his Chair Courses and teaching demonstrations.
This has a decorative brass plate, which is the only difference between
the Travisher pictured and the tools for sale.
All Windsor chair seats are shaped by hand using a travisher to achieve the finished form. The rounding plane is used to shape the spindles for the chair
Ready produced bends can also be purchased
separately if required by any chairmakers.
