A love of wood and woodworking started Tom Thackray, a modern day Chair 'Bodger' making Windsor Chairs over thirty years ago. Today, Tom is widely regarded as one of the foremost experts in this highly skilled craft and has taught students from across the world. His knowledge and dedication to the subject have led to teaching Invitations from as far as America and Japan. His other credits include lecturing at the Chippendale International School of Furniture in Scotland and tutoring other chair makers who are teaching the craft in the country today.
All Windsor Chairs made by Tom Thackray are entirely hand made using original woods, tools and methods dating back two hundred years. Each Full size chair takes several days to make and is then hand polished to finish. Maintaining the tradition of the craft, some of the specialist tools required for Windsor Chair making are also hand made by Tom.
